Clems Electric Company is a family run, electrical contracting company based in Bristol, RI. We've been around for over 30 years and it's been an interesting journey along the way.
Humble Beginnings
Darwin "Clem" Clemens was fresh out of the armed services and getting his feet wet as an electrician working for a local contractor. After his normal workday, Clem would attach a magnetic sign to his Volkswagen Bug and drive around trying to drum up business to make some extra cash. He quickly realized that there were a lot of "side projects" out there. Using his business savvy, a journeyman's license, a Volkswagen Bug full of tools & his magnetic sign he established Clem's Electric Company in 1972

10 years his business began to grow. He expanded his staff, and with the extra manpower was able to take on larger projects.
Key Additions
As Dad's often do, Clem put his 2 sons Wayne & Todd to work for the company during their school vacations. Wayne enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program at URI. After receiving his degree Wayne took on a bigger role at Clem's Electric, creating the design & engineering department, and the business began to transition into the commercial market.
As more complex projects filled the schedule, Clem needed someone to lead the crews out in the field. His younger son Todd stepped up to fill the position. With a talent for working with people, knowledge of electrical components and an ability to solve problems, Todd quickly became their "go to guy".
The additions of Wayne & Todd meant that 2 key roles in the business were in place, and for the last 15 years Clem and his sons have established a reputation for quality service in the commercial market.
Coming Full Circle
Limiting the focus of the business to the commercial market has not been easy. Clem's received numerous calls for residential installations & repairs that had to be turned away because of the structure of their business. Once again, Clem recognized a good business opportunity when he saw one. Beginning in 2004 they expanded operations and began offering services to the residential market.
Clem wanted to provide residential customers with the highest level of service possible. That meant always answering the phone & short wait times for appointments. Once on-site a tech needed to courteous to the customer, assess problems accurately and install products quickly. Most importantly they needed to clean up after themselves, leaving the customer's homes spotless. By following these core values, Clem knew the company would continue to be successful.
Today Clem's Electric Company continues to attract customers from the residential market with friendly, knowledge service, while maintaining their reputation in the commercial industry.
